Another long over due post; I feel like I’m digging up remains from my photo albums, but this place is worth blogging about. It’s actually international- I saw it in London where it was around 2 POUNDS for a cream puff! It’s only $2 for one in NYC, and I even cringe at that.
Never get bubble tea at Beard Papa’s. First, it’s dramatically over-priced and secondly, the bubbles are terrible. They’re hard and taste like clay when you chew them. You can get much better bubble tea at Campus Eatery on West 4th and it’s twice the size.
Having said that, Beard Papa’s is known for their cream puffs and that’s what you should go there for. Each puff is premade and sits on the counter, awaiting for your order. Once you decide on either chocolate or vanilla for the cream, the cream gets pipped into the empty puff shell and confectioner sugar is sifted on top. Did I mention the cream puffs are huge?
The cream puffs crunch under the pressure of the spoon as you scoop for the first bite. The cream doesn’t ooze out because it’s so thick. It’s almost comparable to the cream inside a cannoli, except a bit sweeter. I had a cream puff in Rome, and it wasn’t anywhere near as amazing as the ones at Beard Papa’s.
