The greatest thing about living in Union Square is that it’s so easily accessible to the different areas of New York City. I never really trekked out of the Village area during my freshman year so you can imagine my surprise when I discovered the wonderful strip of cafes along the East Side. My favorite street in particular is along St. Marks by 1st avenue. There’s a bunch of tiny hole in the wall cafes at very reasonable prices and one of them is, of course, Cafe Mogador

Cafe Mogador came highly recommended by my awesome co-worker, Ling! Though the pricing was incomparable to that of Perkins in Jersey, quality and portion size was perfect. I must really emphasize portion size because I always feel overly stuffed after brunches. I felt full enough to not want anything afterwards (although I did end up getting some ice cream after). Anyway, I ordered the goat cheese, spinach, & tomato omelette served with toast, homefries & mesclun salad. They even threw in a free orange juice in a rocks glass along with a very warming cappuchino. Patrick got the Moroccan Benedict with spicy tomato & green pepper sauce. It had a really unique taste, but I’m not a big fan of runny yolks.

So if you’re ever in the city and want to have a casual brunch but at a rustic/Moroccan cafe sort of place, Cafe Mogador is the definetely the place! All brunches are priced at $11.50 and come with the sides (salad & potatoes) as well as orange juice and your choice of tea, expresso, cappuchino. Oh and the tea comes in this cool bubble boiler thing. You’ll have to get it to see what I mean.
