Divertimento Bistro

in the cafe

So the other day, I received an email from Open Table about Sunday Brunches. I have a big thing for brunches since I believe in big meals in the beginning of the day and small dinners. Anyway, the site announced “Take 5″ brunch, or brunch for $5. They looked like they had an eclectic selection- French Toast, Quiche, Omelettes, Eggplant Parm, Mediterranean Salad, Chicken Oregano, etc… Jack and I quickly booked reservations and of course, dragged Sabrina along.

The result? Food was served in small portions but it was dense in flavor. My quiche, which consisted of cheese, spinach, sundried tomatoes, and mushroom. It came with a tiny salad of tomatoes, onions, and spinach. Sabrina’s french toast came out really well. The bread, though whole wheat, was infused with sweetness from the confectioners sugar as well as the dark syrup. Jack’s omelette came with two tiny pieces of toast (which reminded me of the muffin man [?]) and salad. The eggs were fluffy and cooked to the right golden yellow.

I recommend this place if you’re in the mood for some good food but with a small appetite. There’s no way you can be full after this meal. Service is also EXTREMELY slow and the server (who was also the host) seemed as if he had never worked in a customer relations industry before. It was really awkward, but the food made up for it. Each of us spent about $7, which as you may have guessed, is a steal for Sunday Brunch in NYC.
