Xi and I love exams. It’s an excuse to get up, pick up a muffin from either Sainsbury or Tesco, and head up to Cafe Nero for our Cafe Lattes. Europeans know how to make coffee like no other, or maybe it’s jut that Americans don’t. You’ll find that around Europe, everyone is really laid back. There’s to pressure to produce 10 cups of expresso in 1 minute. People take their time. Event though London’s comparably faster with the rest of Europe, I felt a dramatic decrease in pace from New York City.
Patience really is a virtue. I love going into Cafe Nero because you can smell the wonderful aroma of expresso. The barristas take your order and immediately get cranking behind the bar. You can watch them make the expresso as you wait to pay your money.
Though Cafe Nero was our favorite place to go, the expresso was a 6 out of 10 in my book. But you have to remember, I had (supposedly) the best cup of cappuccino in all of Rome and that blew my mind away. However, Cafe Nero is one of the cheaper and more affordable cafes especially for students. For staying, their price for a Cafe Latte was only 1.65 pounds, whereas most other places would charge you close or above 2 pounds.
Through time and many visits, we found that the size of a small Americano and Cappuccino was significantly smaller than a small Cafe Latte. For just 5p more than an Americano, it was a much better deal. Cafe Nero also gives out loyalty awards. After 9 cups of coffee or tea, you get the 10th free and you can choose ANYTHING! I took advantage of my free drink by trying their Double Chocolate Frappe Latte which was rich in a mocha/chocolaty flavor. It was a bit below 4 pounds, but it’s a 8 out of 10. I’ve also had their Mint Frappe, which was a disappointment, maybe a 4 out of 10, so don’t waste your money or calories on that.
There are many, many Nero locations. There’s two on Tottenham Court Rd, but the one next to the Starbucks on the side of the Warren St. Tube is smaller. However, I’d recommend going to the one on Oxford street because it’s ginormous and makes a great place to study or for a chat.
I wish I had taken a picture of the Cafe Latte, but all the pictures are of Americanos or Cappuccinos. The Cafe Latte comes in a tall glass rather than a cup.
