Jenny has steak night every Friday in Texas so she was disappointed when she had to leave that tradition. On Friday, after walking on along the path from Coogee to Bondi, we found a restaurant that served a special on Friday nights. For $10, you get a steak, chips, side salad, and either a pint of beer or a glass of wine. We immediately decided we’d go for dinner and came back a couple of hours later.

The restaurant is on the second floor and it’s quite different from the restaurants we’re used to. There’s a counter where you order food and perpendicular to it on the left, there’s a bar where you get your drink. Everything is serve yourself. You get to pick your own seat; it was too cold, but otherwise, you can catch a spectacular view of the beach on the balcony.

We were so early that the cashier hadn’t come yet so the chef had to take our orders. The steak comes in either red wine sauce, mushroom sauce, or peppered. For drinks, you can either get white or red wine or a pint of their draft. I got the white, Jenny got the red, and Angela the beer. Jenny ended drinking the beer.

The steak was decent considering the cost. I ordered mine medium, but it was well cooked. They give you a decent portion and the chips are thick. I’m not sure whether Australian ketchup is supposed to taste a bit sour and acidic, but the ketchup we had tasted as if they added vinegar to the bottle.

The three of us plan on going here at least once a month. Next door to Aquarium Bar and Restaurant, there’s another pub-restaurant that serves a $4 steak and drink on Wednesday, so we’ll see which is better.
