Coogee Cafe

With so many cafes around Coogee and Randwick, Jenny, Angela, and I decided we’d start a tradition of trying a new coffee bar/cafe each weekend morning. We woke up to a gorgeous morning. After two days of gloomy weather and rain, it was a relief to bask in the sunlight. We left a little late so by the time we got to Coogee Bay St, all the cafes were full of weekend breakfasters. Angela couldn’t make it, so Jenny and I decided on coffee to go.

I’m still on my search for the perfect cup of cheap Cappuccino, so I got that while Jenny got black coffee. I ordered unsweetened this time, which was a bit too bitter for my liking, but at least there’s nothing to mask the wonderful aroma of the expresso. For $3.00, it was somewhat expensive considering we’ve found coffee for around $2.50. But, it’s a great place to sit and people watch on Coogee Bay Road. They also have plugs if you want to bring your laptop.

I was surprised that black coffee is priced the same as a Cappucino or Latte. I think I’ll have to ask for a packet of sugar in my Cappuccino from now on.

So the search is still on for that perfect and cheap cup. We took our coffee to the shore where we sat on the steps and people-watched for two and a half hours. Time had flown while we watched the little kids build sand castles and old men run across the sand. Being a great day, we headed back home to make some peanut-butter nutella sandwiches and brought Ted, Jenny’s blanket, back to the beach. It began to get a bit cold, but we sat out for quite awhile, just chatting aimlessly. We noticed that some of the seagulls stand on one foot as they gaze out into the ocean. Anyone know why?

While we were heading back, we passed by the Palace which offered a free slice of cake to celebrate Coogee’s 170th birthday. The cake was a bit dense and dry, but hey it was still free cake. It was really awesome looking because it was made to look like the ocean waves and shore. Tonight there’s going to be a huge rugby match between Australia and New Zealand. We’re all going to head out to the hotel (that’s what they call the pub/bar here) so I’m really excited to enjoy the last couple of days before school starts.
