Tim Tam’s debut in America

double chocolate.. omg!!

There’s that satisfying crunch whenever you bite into a Tim Tam. And there’s that a wave of pleasure that hits the insides of your mouth when you start chewing a Tim Tam. But before I go any further, I should probably explain just what a Tim Tam is. It’s basically two pieces of chocolate malted biscuits held together by a light creamy chocolate filling and then covered in a layer of chocolate. Seriously, why aren’t they in the US?

Actually, they are. Target is selling them exclusively until March 2009. Hawaii is the only state that will continue selling them beyond March. Stock up while you still can, I say. Maybe if we all buy enough, they’ll keep them on our American shelves?

Anyway, the reason for this post wasn’t because I wanted to declare their arrival. I wanted to share an awesome way to eat the Tim Tam. You can actually use your Tim Tam as a straw! You bite off both ends, stick it into your cup and start sucking. The tiny holes in the chocolate malted biscuits suck the water up all the way through and into your mouth. It’s great with a cup of hot chocolate or coffee!

Unfortunately, with all that has been going on, I havent had a chance to go to Target yet. The ones in NYC are out of the way but thankfully, one of my Aussie friends brought me 2 packs, which should last me for a bit if I attempt to conserve. The ones pictured are the double chocolate coated ones (the chocolate coat is usually a bit thinner) but at the end of the day, I think the original still beats all.

Great, now I need to go to Target. :)

Seriously, they look and sound amazing! I’ll have to buy a package or two.

I found them before Christmas and was so excited, you can also buy then at Cost Plus World Market, along with vegemite and many other Aussie foods.

When you use the cookie as a straw, it’s called a Tim Tam Slam! My daughter Jordan is crazy for these. :o )

How exciting! I *love* Tim Tams! I used to eat them all the time when I was in Australia. I’ll have to look for them the next time I’m at Target. Thanks for the heads up!

It is quite curious that something so intriquing as this type of confection came from a penal colony.

they’ve been sold in cost plus world market for a few years as well.

Too bad there’s no Target in the city.. =( that’s a great idea though to use tim tams as a straw. I really want to try one!!

I used to work at World Market, they sell these too! Sometimes the caramel ones and the double stuffed ones as well. I used to buy them all the time.

I’m glad the Tim Tam joy is being exported :) Great photos… my mouth is watering. Us Aussies have been enjoying these as straws for years. Also great in hot weather if you pop them in the freezer first. But for the record – they’re BISCUITS!! Cookies are American I think. Also, just to update you on world affairs, we’re not a penal colony. Or would you be surprised if your own slave-trading colony came up with an equally intriguing confection?!

Touche, Javia, touche! (to the penal colony comment, although we have come up with equally intriguing confections already)

As for the biscuits subject- yes they are indeed a biscuit, but I think if they were “Americanized” they’d turn into cookies. For us, cookies cover the realm of biscuits. I really hope they remain Aussie though.

I just went to Target all excited about getting TimTams and I couldn’t find them anywhere :( I even asked a few people stocking shelves and the guy at customer service and nobody had ever heard of them. Maybe they just don’t have them in MA? Anyway… it was a sad, sad day. And sucking milk/cocoa/coffee through a timtam is called a TimTam Slam!
