Who would have known? One, that the beautiful weather today would yield a session of Al Fresco dining in the heart of Union Square. And, two, that the restaurant with the big vertical “Coffee Shop” sign would serve delicious food.
After my interview today, I wasn’t hungry much and didn’t feel like going grocery shopping. One look at Sabrina changed all that. If all else fails in life, Sabrina and I will always be successful at eating.
Anyway, we decided to go to Coffee Shop because of the gorgeous weather. Having been there once and ordered the fish and chips, Sabrina ordered the same thing again. Their fish is Tilapia, served with a side of tartar sauce and a bed of thin but well seasoned fries. I’ve had better fish and chips, but it wasn’t too bad. I mean, the crust could have been a bit more crispy, but at least it wasn’t greasy. I ordered their pork loin sandwich, served in a kaiser roll with tomato, rocket, and chipotle mayonnaise. That was extremely yummy. They gave me so much that I was able to pack half of it for dinner. Unfortunately, the server didn’t pack my fries!
Of course, Sabrina wanted dessert even though I was trying to be health conscience. Supposedly the banana cream pie is famous at The Coffee Shop. Honestly, it was good but it wasn’t spectacular. You could taste the banana, but it wasn’t too strong (which is a good thing). However, the crust seemed soft and stale, and it was difficult to break it with a spoon. The slice was served with a whipped topping and drizzled chocolate.
Overall, we had a great dining experience. Dining outside is great because all these people walk by and stare at your delicious food that they only wish they could have. There’s also a beautiful [sarcasm] construction site opposite of the restaurant, for your viewing pleasure. The food came out fast and everything looked fresh and delicious. It is a bit expensive though, as lunch for two came out to $40 including tax and tip. I’d only go again if it’s a good day to dine outside.
