Think Coffee

I was watching this really interesting documentary the other day about oil. Its point was that oil is perhaps the cheapest liquid on earth (next to water) and they explained the concept by comparing it with a cup of coffee from Starbucks. Think about it- a gallon of gasoline is currently wavering under the $3 mark whereas a tall latte at Starbucks will set you back over $3. Anyway, the point that I’m trying to make here is that we’re complaining about the wrong things in life. And that $3+ “coffee, expresso, etc.” that Starbucks claims to serve is some nasty ______.

And so, I didn’t understand what good coffee was until I went abroad. In London, the big chains, such as Costa have much better coffee than here in the US. And when I lived in Australia… man. The espresso was so good that I had these friends who went on a “coffee” break each afternoon. It was almost comical because here were these 3 big European guys and they would always set time aside for their “afternoon tea” (or coffee in this case).

When I came back to the US, it became really difficult for me to drink coffee because I got so picky. One of my favorite places now is Think, which is located right next to the NYU campus. Most students can’t afford it, but if you happen to be an NYU student, just print this out and you receive an automatic 50% off of any drink! So my drinks always came out to be under $3!!

The reason why I think Think is beyond awesome is because

  • Their coffee is legit. Not their drip coffee, but their espresso based drinks. Like European/Australian legit
  • Their drinks are lovingly crafted by their skilled baristas. You might have to wait a bit, but it’s worth it
  • Their baristas are cool and can make awesome designs wih the foam

Here are some musts that you must have at Think Coffee:

  • Spanish Latte- your casual latte made not-so-casual with the help of condense milk (both iced and hot are extremely good)
  • Espresso milkshake- your espresso fantasies in the form of a thick icy blend
  • Oatmeal- it’s expensive ($5) but it’s thick and made with steamed milk, raisins, and honey! It’s so big/filling that could even share it

I love studying at Think even though it’s uber difficult to find a spot. But, get there early and claim your spot. There’s tons of plugs for the laptop adict and the environment is just so homey. All of the wood is used from recycled wood (aka wood that would have otherwised been chucked away).
