The “do it yourself,” well actually, “pick and watch someone do it for you” has gained alot of momentum. You see all of these choose your own toppings and ingredients from frozen yogurt shops to places like Press NY. Press NY is a tiny spot on 3rd avenue with casual tables for that quick bite. They serve wraps, salads, and sides. It doesn’t get simpler than that.
Maneesha, who wasn’t very hungry, ordered a side of fries. For the $3.50, I thought the portions were grossly under. They did look good though… And you get to choose your own sauce so at least you get a variety beyond ketchup. Their sauces include:
- Barbeque
- Chiptole Mayo
- Honey Mustard
- Jalapeno
- Pesto
- Tahini
Amit and I got a wrap. He says their chicken is really good (then again, anything with chicken is always good in his book), but I got the rib-eye. The coolest part of the whole process is watching them press this round lumpy spotted brown thing into a… TORTILLA!! So the tortillas are pressed fresh to order which makes them warm. I would have gotten all the toppings, but my wrap was fat enough as it was. Their toppings include:
- Crispy onions (get those, you won’t regret it)
- Regular sliced red onions
- Lettuce
- Mixed Greens
- Red/Green Peppers
- Cabbage
- Carrots
- Tomatoes
- Guac
- Cheese
- Jalapenos
- Scallions
There’s a few more, but my brain is limited in capacity…
And viola! That’s what it looks! I also requested Chipotle Mayo and Jalapeno sauce. After each bite, I’d drizzle a bit of ketchup on top of that meat for the perfect bite. It was heavenly!
For what it’s worth, Press wraps are really expensive. It’s $9.50 for a wrap with meat and only a dollar cheaper for the vegetarian options. But the ingredients are fresh, delicious, and mostly healthy. Sure, you could go to Subway for a $5 foot-long, but as someone who doesn’t eat out everyday I’d rather splurge a bit more.
(Amit’s so happy. Maybe it’s the effect of watching the tortilla being pressed…)
Students receive a discount and you get a free wrap after every 5 wraps. They do check for your student ID though.
