Koryodang: It’s never too cold for shaved ice!

by Jessie on November 24, 2009

After lunch at Gahm Mi Oak, the five of us headed over to Korydang a few shops over for some shaved ice. Actually, it was only me who wanted shaved ice. Man, I just drool at the thought of the shaved ice in Shanghai. There, it’s served in a giant bowl with thin shaved ice drizzled with condensed milk, topped with lychee, and pineapples. It’s so tempting- it’s almost enough to want to go back.

Korydang is like a glorified Chinatown bakery. The bread items are a bit more expensive (around $1.75), but they look alot more appetizing than those that you’d find in that dingy Chinatown shop. There’s also more variety too (me thinks).

The prices are actually ridiculously inflated if you sit down. A small cup of red bean shaved ice is only $4.50 to go, yet the shaved ice served dining in is a whopping $8.99! Even if you opt for the regular size to go, it’s only $6.00. That being said, I think they give you fruit in the shaved ice if you’re dining in, and of course, it’s a bit bigger. But everything else on their menu is wayy too overpriced. Basically, everything was $8+. There’s also a $3 minimum if you choose to sit.

So instead we took it to go. I was torn between green tea and red bean, but ultimately went with the latter. The ice was more finely shaved than I expected, but it was still good. All the milk was on the bottom but there was tons of red bean!

Jerry’s idea of warm weather is 55 degrees. And then he got a strawberry milkshake and almost froze to death. But Jungyon came to his rescue with the purple scarf. And then there’s Albert with his signature facial expression.

So Korydang is a bit overpriced, but it’s KTown. I’d come back for the shaved ice anytime.
